Retirement Coverage

Social Security Retirement Coverage

The Social Security Retirement benefit is a valuable source of financial security for many retirees. It provides a monthly check that can replace part of your income when you reduce your hours or stop working altogether. This benefit helps to ensure a comfortable retirement, however, it may not replace all of your income, so it's important to plan ahead and identify other ways to pay for your monthly expenses.

Retirement benefits are available to you if you retire and are between the ages 62 and 70

Social Security Survivors benefits

Social Security survivors benefits provide financial stability to those who have lost a loved one. These benefits are designed to help widows, widowers, and dependents of eligible workers cope with the financial loss of a loved one's income. This benefit is especially important for young families with children, as it can help alleviate the burden of unexpected financial hardship.

Do you qualify?

  • Surviving spouse age 60 or older (age 50 or older if they have a disability).

  • Surviving divorced spouse, under certain circumstances.

  • Surviving spouse at any age who is caring for the deceased’s child who is under age 16 or has a disability and receiving child’s benefits.

  • Unmarried child of the deceased who is one of the following:

    • Younger than age 18 (or up to age 19 if they are a full-time student in an elementary or secondary school).

    • Age 18 or older with a disability that began before age 22.

How to apply

We understand this can be a very hard time for you and your family. The SSA tries to make this process as seamless as possible, so please read the attached pamphlet here that gives an outline created by the SSA.
